The pit bull terrier dogs are generally medium sized species. Also the male dogs are generally heavier than the female ones. The female dog weighs around 30 to 60 pounds and males weigh between 35 to 70 pounds. They height mostly lie between 18 to 22 inches. They have well developed bone structure and strong physique. The neck of these dogs is very strong and upright. The bone structure of the dog is well developed with appropriate mass of muscles. These dogs have a strong chest and body of these dogs is streamlined. These dogs have a broad face with very strong jaws making it look broader. The chest of these dogs develops rapidly once they cross he adolescence period.

The face of these dogs is mostly tapered to some extent with wrinkles found on the face. These dogs have a round and medium length legs. These legs are strong making them work for a longer period. Also they have a very different bone pattern considering the predecessors of their family. This bone pattern actually differentiates these species from the rest of others.

The eyes of these dogs are round and are mostly of different colors. Mostly the color of the eyes is green and yellow. Only color that is not accepted by the society of the breeds is blue. The ears are mostly conical and they are tapered at the top. They have very sharp ears which make them hear even a very small sound. The ears in some species are cropped. But in some special cases the ears that are outcropped is also found.
